Bold extra large spiderweb turquoise decorated butterfly brooch. There’s a lot going on in the creation. Wings are repousse’ stamped with decorative full sun, sunrise, feather, Thunderbird, and Kiva stampwork on the wings. Bird tracks stamped up the tail of the butterfly which leads up to a beautiful oval spiderweb turquoise stone from the Indian Mountain turquoise mine. The stone is set into a smooth silver bezel wrapped with twisted wire. The silversmith mounts a large circular half bead as the head with sun stamped buttons as eyes and heavy solid gauge twisted wire as the antennae. The butterfly brooch is finished with a long safety clasp pin on the back.

The extra large butterfly measures 3 1/4” by 2 1/2” across and weighs 33.6 grams (1.185 oz or 1.08 ozt). It displays the hallmark of a Spider - E by Anglo silversmith Joe Eby. Mr Eby was know to make southwest/tribal natured jewelry throughout the late 70’s to mid-late 80’s in the Albuquerque, NM area. I know his son and asked him for info on the butterfly. He came back to me as the piece was part of an order for an Albuquerque store in the early-mid 80’s. $469.95
