Decorated Navajo Red Mountain turquoise ring. The silversmith has used a healed oval cut and polished turquoise stone with reddish brown matrix from the Red Mountain Mines setting it into a sawtooth bezel. The silversmith has wrapped the stone with twisted wire and added a combination of a silver leaf, hogan button, and two (2) scrolls which run across the top and begin to ride down one side. She continues decorating by running a smooth wire around the remainder of the outer rim and applies repeat sunrise stampwork to the smooth silver wire ending with a silver drop at the end. The artist finishes the ring by attaching a three fingered split shank band.

The ring face measures 1” by 3/4” across and weighs 7.3 grams. It’s a size 9 and is hallmarked V.BLACKGOAT - Sterling by Navajo silversmith Verna Blackgoat. As stated above, the stone has the beginnings of a crack that runs in some of the matrix and has been repaired or stopped before running completely through the stone.
