Item #954N- Vintage Navajo Turquoise Silver Squash Blossom Necklace and Earrings Set
Bold vintage Navajo turquoise squashblossom necklace and earrings set. The necklace consists of forty eight (48) large 15mm seamed beads, twelve (12) 15mm beads with four prong stems/blossoms, and a three (3) wire naja consisting of two (2) heavy gauge carinated wires with a twisted wire running in the middle. The naja shows the carinated wire being cut at the end leaving a flat surface where the silversmith attached a large solid hogan button on each end. The artist also attached a beautiful polished turquoise nugget mounted in a smooth bezel on a sheet silver base which runs up under the naja and has been cut and formed to become the bale. Strung on double nylon coated wire with handmade shepherds hook and eye clasp. This necklace obviously must have broke and the owner lost some of the beads. While having it restrung they used ten (10) turquoise nuggets to fill in for the missing beads and made a matching pair of earrings with four (4) leftover beads. Pretty creative! Considering the large thick silver beads and solid four prong thick silver blossoms, this necklace would have most likely been made in the 40’s-50’s and originally been in the $1800-$2000 price range these days.
