Extra large bold vintage Zuni turquoise decorated collector’s cross pendant. Made by noted Zuni silversmith Mike Simplicio (b.1937-1976). The artist didn’t cut any corners using thick silver sheeting. He hand cut the extra large cross and included large stamped flowers with silver drops in the center on the end of each arm. He continued decorating by mounting five (5) beautiful cut and polished quality turquoise stones in the center of the cross. A large circular cut light blue stone in the center flanked by four (4) egg shaped stones extending out on each arm of the cross. The stones display brown and dark brown matrix and are set into smooth silver bezels. The artist finishes decorating by adding decorative diamond eye/sunrise stamping between the stones and the large flowers on each end. Mr Simplicio completes the cross pendant by attaching a large silver handmade bale to the top of the cross.

The extra large cross measures 5 1/4” by 3 5/8” across and including the bale is approximately 5 3/4” tall. The sheet silver used measures 25mm thick and each stamped flower measures 7/8” diameter. The full cross pendant weighs 73.2 grams (2.58 oz or 2.35 ozt) and is hallmarked MIKE - STERLING inside a rug like tribal design. Mike and his father Dan were both very respected in the Zuni jewelry world with Dan being one of the first, if not the first Native silversmith to incorporate the silver leaves into his creations.
