Item #852F- Vintage Hopi Turquoise and Branch Coral Silver Symbols Overlay Owl Pin/Pendant by Norman Honie Sr
Rare vintage Hopi silver overlay Owl with turquoise and coral collector's pin/pendant. Made by Norman Honie Sr, the silversmith has created a unique owl using a multiple silver overlay technique along with turquoise inlay and a branch coral perch. The body displays a symbolized silver overlay on top of a textured blackened scorched silver base along with detail stampwork for the birds wings and tail feathers. The face of the owl continues with the overlay along with an added textured silver mounted on top representing the beak and ears of the owl. He's also inlaid circular cut pieces of turquoise for the owl's eyes. The branch coral perch displays the artist actually cutting a round stick of coral down the middle so as to have a flat surface to mount the coral to the silver. He has wrapped a silver strip around the coral to represent the owl's claws/feet. The artist finishes the piece by attaching a horseshoe shaped bale and long safety locking pin/clasp on the back.
