Large vintage 1970's Navajo turquoise squashblossom necklace! Made with a total of one hundred forty four (144) silver 8mm seamed beads, twelve (12) turquoise nugget blossoms, and an eight (8) stone polished turquoise nugget naja. All of the turquoise nuggets are set in smooth bezels wrapped with twisted rope. The stones appear to be from the Easter Blue Mine also known as the Blue Mountain Mine. They are all light blue to blue-green with brown to rust brown matrix. Each stone varies in size from 1/4" by 3/8" in the smallest blossom to 7/8" by 3/8" at the naja. Each blossom consists of a turquoise nugget set in a decorative stamped smooth bezel and wrapped with twisted rope. Mounted to a blackened scorched silver teardrop shaped base that's encircled with heavy gauge square wire. The artist adds a large silver drop at the teardrop point and attaches a trefold flute to the underneath side. The blossoms measure 1 7/8" by 7/8". The beautiful naja consists of eight (8) nuggets with two (2) nuggets set inside a large teardrop at top and three (3) nuggets to each side. All mounted to two piece heavy gauge three sided carinated wires that form the naja shape. The naja measures 2 3/4" by 2 5/8" with the naja teardrop measuring 1 3/4" by 1 1/4". The full necklace measures 25" end to end with a wearable length of 14 1/2" long and is strung on silver wire with a hook-n-eye clasp. It weighs 185.8 grams (6.55 ounces)and is unsigned sterling silver. A couple of the blossom flutes show slight dings, but it doesn't take anything away from the necklace as a whole.
