Item # 390F - Lg Vintage Navajo-Zuni Carved Turquoise Eagle Double Coral Bolo
Beautiful large vintage Navajo-Zuni carved turquoise eagle with double coral bolo. Made with a large polished blue turquoise stone with heavy brown and dark brown spiderweb matrix hand carved into a flying eagle and set into a serrated bezel. The eagle is mounted in the center of the shield with two long pieces of branch coral set in serrated bezels mounted in the top right and lower right (if looking at the shield). The artist adds two curving silver leaves, a flower bloom, two stamped silver drops, and two wire scrolls and mounts everything to a blackened silver base. Finishing the shield with a decorative stamped border frame. The bolo shield measures 3" tall by 2 1/4" across narrowing down to 1 1/2" across the bottom and is attached to the dark brown braided leather cord with a BENNETT PAT. PEND. thumb locking clasp. The leather cord measures 39" long which includes the 2 1/4" long sterling silver fluted bead end tips. The complete bolo weighs 63.6 grams (2.34 ounces) and is signed CE - GB. I believe the bolo was a combined effort. CE most likely standing for Zuni artist Chavis Elliot which probably carved the eagle and GB stands for Navajo artist George Begay that did the silverwork. That's my judgement, but I may be wrong. Guaranteed sterling silver. Made in late 60's to early 70's most likely. The Bennett patent expired in 1969. $349.95
